The Science Bit

A colloid is a chemical mixture where one substance is dispersed evenly throughout water. Unlike a suspension, where the particles are dissolved in the water, a colloid holds the particles suspended. This is because the colloids are larger than the particles in a solution so they dispense light and don’t dissolve whilst they are also small enough to be dispersed evenly and have the appearance of a solution. They are so small that they are able to pass through membranes therefore completely bypassing the digestive system meaning they are easily absorbed and utilised by the body.

Scientists have discovered that the body’s most important fluids are colloidal in nature e.g. blood. Science Digest in an article in March 1978 entitled ‘Our Mightiest Germ Fighter’ reported: “Thanks to eye-opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic.” A quote at the end of the article by Dr Harry Margraf, a biochemist who worked with the chairman of Washington University’s Department of Surgery in the 1970’s states: “Silver is the best all-around germ fighter we have.”
